Gesgapegiag First Nation saves for 3 years to send students to England

Gesgapegiag, a Mi’kmaq reserve in Quebec not far from the New Brunswick border, which spent three years saving to send a group of young people on an educational tour of England, has seen its investment pay off.

Five students and two monitors embarked on their journey as part of an EF Educational Tours trip from June 27 to July 4 to experience other cultures and see life outside the reserve, an enriching and rewarding experience.

“I want these youth to progress and I don’t want them living in a box. I love this community and I’m not trying to put it down, but I want our youth to be better than what we were used to seeing,” said Andrew Martin, team leader at the Wellness and Prevention program at Gesgapegiag.
